I've Booked
my Cancun Holiday, now what ???
Congratulations on Booking your
Cancun Holiday, now there are several things that you
need to do and be aware off.
Things
to Remember....
1. Inform your Banker that you
will be in Cancun, and using your ATM & Credit Cards.
Failure to do this will make life difficult as you may
not be able to draw cash or use your Credit Card.
2. Remember Cancun accepts US
Dollars & Mexican Pesos. Although there are Exchange
Bureaux all over the place they don't give very good
rates for British Pounds, you get a better rate through
the ATM.

3.
The Electric is the same as the USA and therefore you'll
need an adaptor if you want to charge your phone, camera
or PSP.
4. Remember your Environmentally
friendly Sun Screen, as there are lots of Eco Parks
and Nature Reserves.
5. If you have long hair, you
should remember your anti frizz Shampoo & Conditioner
or be prepared for some bad hair days.
6.
A Light Shower proof jacket should be packed because
when it rains.. it really rains, but they are usually
showers that are over pretty quickly.
7. Pass your hotel telephone
number to your relatives, remembering that the Dialling
code for Cancun is ++52 998 & Playa del Carmen is
++52 984 with a 7 digit number for the Hotel to follow.
8. Always use the Safe in your
Hotel room and keep all your valuables such as
your Passport, MOD 90 in there. Do not carry excesses
of cash around with you.
9.
You shouldn't carry with you in your luggage any Meats,
Fruit, Vegetables, Seeds or Dairy produce. These will
be removed by Customs as you enter the Country. All
baggage is X-rayed at the airport and subject to search.
10. Remember to bring your driving
licence with you if you would like to rent a car while
in Mexico. It must be carried with you in the car at
all times. If you are renting a Moped (which is not
adviseable) you must be a minimum of 21 years. Always
remember to read the small print on any Insurance you
take out in Mexico, as YOU may be covered, but the Machine
(Including Jungle Tour Boats & Jetskis) may not
be.
11. Bring a Ziplock plastic bag
to store your Passport and other valuable documents
in. This will be especially useful if you are caught
in Cancun during a Hurricane or Tropical Storm.
12. MAKE a note of your travel
agents contact details, especially if visiting between
June 1st - November 30th which is Hurricane Season in
the Caribbean. Click
here to check for Any Hurricane Activity in the Area.
13. If you are a TEA drinker,
make sure to pack some and bring it with you because
the tea in Cancun isn't very good.
14. Please
REMEMBER that Cancun is very Americanised and it is
Customary to pay a tip to Transportation Drivers, Waiters,
Bell Boys and anybody else that gives you excellent
service. This is normally a couple of US dollars per
person.
15. If you are British
or European travelling through the USA to get to Cancun,
you must remember to complete the New ESTA
form or USA Visa Waiver at least 72 hours prior
to your Journey.
16. If you use your Credit
/ Debit card in Mexico, the amount will be charged in
Pesos. Make sure you ask what is the exchange rate if
your tours, purchase were advertised in USD and be aware
that there is a 5% charge for using the cards.
17. Telephone calls from
your Hotel Room to the UK will cost about $5.00
USD per minute... Only use this in Emergencies,
and remember that it will be charged to your room and
is payable at check out, so have money available to
cover it.
18. Cancun is 6 hours
behind the UK
19. Avoid buying Tours
Etc from vendors selling stuff in the Street. More often
than not you will not get what you are promised. Every
Resort has an inhouse Travel Agent, or you can arrange
for your Travel Agent to meet you in the Hotel Lobby
at a convenient time.
15. If it sounds too good
to be True.... It Generally is !! There are lots of
timeshare sharks in Cancun wanting to get you away to
attend one of their presentations, especially if you
are a Couple.
