Crococun
Zoo, Cancun, Mexico

Crococun
began in 1985 as a commercial breeding farm intending
to sell crocodile skins, but now Crococun is a Park
& Regional Zoo on the outskirts of Cancun.
Crococun is a great place to see the local wildlife.
Venture into the natural tropical forest and confront
the prehistoric crocodiles, the rulers of this sacred
land and witness their unpredictable personalities.
The journey continues with a welcome from the friendly
monkeys, some of the local snakes and the other exciting
surprises.
Get
a Guide at the entrance and you'll be able to handle
& feed crocodiles, monkeys, boas, baby deer, and
parrots. (Be sure to tip him at the end).
This is a great place to take children and perfectly
safe since most of the animals are in large pens and
exhibits. Everything is outside in lush jungle. The
tour consists of a walk down a winding jungle path as
your guide talks about the animals and answers your
questions. Every so often he stops to pick up something
to show you. Be sure to pet the hairless Mayan dog.
The Maya used to eat them, and it apparently
makes a good dish.
Make
sure that you take plenty of Insect Repellent.
It's very easy to have a good time at Crococun Zoo.
They also have a snack bar and souvenir stand for mementos.
You can get here easily by catching a Mayab or Playa
Express Bus. This will drop you & collect you at
the front of the Zoo. If all else fails, the staff will
call a taxi for you.
