Getting to Cancun from Belize - By Charter Coach

Getting to Cancun from Belize by charter coach is relatively easy, although long winded.

The Coaches will arrive at Price Barracks ready for a pre-advised departure time. Usually a 06:00hrs departure (although this can be any time), and the company used is Expressos Coaches. Expressos is a Mexican owned Company based in Cancun, but who cover the whole of the Mayan Riviera & beyond. They have 60, 50 & 25 seater coaches, which have air conditioning, onboard toilet & video/DVD.

A fleet of new 60 Seater Coaches has recently been purchased.

Prior to departure a manifest should be prepared so that it can be given to the immigration staff in Belize & Mexico.

Expressos Coaches Cancun

Once you arrive at the Belizean Border you will be asked to enter Border Management. Here you must show your passport & pay $37.50 Belize Dollars departure tax, then head to Immigration to have your passport stamped.

The Coach will then take you to the Mexican border. When you cross the bridge onto the Mexican side of the Rio Honda, you will be asked to take all of your belongings from the Coach and enter Immigration to complete the Tourist Visa Card. Occassionally there will be a person from the Mexican Department of Agriculture there to check bags, making sure that you don't carry fruits, vegetables, meats, diary produce & seeds into Mexico, and that you have thoroughly checked your bags for any weapons & ammo.

Once you have been through Immigration you must then walk about 300 metres up the road to find the Coach again. You will see Mexican Customs agents & several Mexican soldiers at the border, mainly checking vehicles, but either of these groups may stop you and search you bags.

There is an ATM right alongside the Customs point that issues pesos, should you need to obtain money.

Once you are safely back onboard the Coach and all passengers accounted for, the Coach will head directly to Cancun on the Route 307, and the Hotel where you are staying. The Driver will stop once for twice to allow you a refreshment break. Please place all rubbish, in a black bag & leave the coach tidy. There is no problem with the passengers drinking beer which can easily be purchased along the way.

The journey takes approx 8 to 9 hours, depending on how busy the Border Crossing is, and how many times you stop for refreshments along the way.

The Return Journey

The Coach will collect you from the hotel, at around 12:30hrs. Check out is at 12.00 hrs. Again a manifest is required for the border crossing. The Coach driver will stop for refreshments along the way, and as for the previous journey, you should leave the coach clean & tidy.

When you are going through Mexican Immigration on the way out...... If you were in Mexico for less than 4 nights you are not required to pay the departure tax, providing that you crossed over a land border. If you were longer in Mexico, then you will be required to pay $20.00 USD (200.00 pesos).

If you tell them that you are returning later on, you will only have to pay $10.00 USD and they will stamp your tourist card with "Doble Entrada" or Double Entry... this saves you from having to complete the tourist card again the next time you visit Mexico.

If you arrived by plane into Cancun and are traveling to Belize, again, tell them that you will be returning to take your flight. You will notice the passport stamp has a small aircraft on it, to show you arrived by air.... if you cross a land border the stamp will have a small car on it.

Prices on Request.
